The Procession
Man Vs. Nature
/STUDENT PROJECT/
ADVANCED ARABIC TYPOGRAPHY ELECTIVE
OFFERED BY REZA ABEDINI
This is a two-part project in which The Procession, a poem by Gebran Khalil Gebran was typographically interpreted in the form of a triptych poster series and six spreads.
In the first part /poster series/, a recurrent type of sentence in the poem is repeated, where the poet draws a different comparison between man and nature, each time praising the latter. The poster on the right represents nature, as the kashidas /elongation between arabic letters/ are intervened on by organic and flowing shapes. The poster on the left represents man, as the shapes become rough and mechanic. /Both the gradient and the fonts chosen follow this logic/.
In the second part /spreads/, the same idea is portrayed; where nature now represents the version of the font that is intervened on, as we were required to do this exercise using only one typeface.
